SENSITIVE, WELL and LOOKING AHEAD
Notes from a writer, health and wellness coach, and HSP who believes all of us - and especially we HSPs - must find healthy ways to lift our voices and advocate for positive change
Here are a few reminders for subscribers, and for those who have recently signed up for this newsletter.
Sensitive, Well and Looking Ahead will come to you approximately every other week - I don’t believe in loading up people’s email inboxes.
There will always be three short sections:
SENSITIVE - about being and/or learning about highly sensitive people;
WELL - general wellness tips for everyone;
LOOKING AHEAD - Suggesting ways that all of us - even we highly sensitive people - can lift our voices to protect others and fight for American democracy.
SENSITIVE
Being sensitive is not a character flaw. It’s not a mental disorder. It’s not being weak.
We highly sensitive people have heard negative comments on our sensitivity for most of our lives.
It’s true - we do cry easily. We might become defensive or emotional when something touches us deeply. And things often touch us deeply.
We’re good at intuiting others’ moods and even may take on the mood ourselves without realizing it.
We notice things in the environment and in others that no one else notices, and when we comment we may say things no one wants to hear.
We want everyone to know that sensitivity is not a weakness. Being emotional does not make us an immature crybabies.
SENSITIVITY IS A STRENGTH. Some of us call it our super-power.
I’ve spent four years researching this characteristic and writing about it for a memoir I’m submitting to independent publishers now.
And I’m convinced that HSPs and the people who know and love them can change the world. We HSPs need to lay claim to our power and lift our voices. And we would ask the people who know and love us to support us as we step out into roles that are hard for us.
Are you an HSP? Do you know someone who is?
If you like, write in the COMMENT section about how you believe HSPs and their supportive others can participate in the changing of this too-often violent, hateful, chaotic world into a gentle, accepting, encouraging world.
WELL
This week, I’m suggesting a resource - UC Berkley’s Greater Good Magazine, and their Happiness Calendar.
Here’s the December 2024 Happiness Calendar - HERE.
Each day has a simple prompt - be a kind neighbor, spend time with friends, hold good self-care boundaries - that reminds us how many small decisions and actions we can take to increase our happiness.
LOOKING AHEAD
I’m a nationally certified health and wellness coach with a new offering you or someone you know may be interested in.
CARING CIRCLES: Many of us are distraught and fearful about 2024 American election results. Yet we have four years of difficulty ahead of us.
Caring Circles are a way for you to gain peace of mind while planning ahead for positive action and good self-care.
What do you need to participate?
You, or a group including you and up to three others;
Four hours (four one-hour sessions);
$80 for all four sessions - a 75% discount over my usual fee because I want this to be accessible to all (contact me if $80 is too much for you and we’ll work something out);
Willingness to think deeply and discover your best self-care for the next four years, and commitment to attend all four sessions.
